It's funny, I had a previous bishop that once called me up for some possible computer help. At first he was seeing if I would be able to help him out based on his need. Then he said he might use me in the future and of course he would be paying me. I didn't really thing about him trying to ask for free on-site help, but thought it was interesting bringing that up. Almost in case some in the ward might feel intimidated to help out the bishop for free.

Hello Boys,
I guess I like this podcast so much because it echos my own thoughts on so many subjects.

Doing business with a Ward member kind of reminds me of the story of the rich widow. Nobody would date her because they thought she and others would think they were dating her because of her money so the only person who would date her was a person who was after her money...

I find it awkward to ever do business or not do business with church members. Other than the occasional Pampered Chef party contraversy ("but there is a relief society activity the same night?") its not a big issue here, but like all the subjects that you guys examine... it is real. I love my testamony of the savior too much to want it to be put in jepordy because of who goofed up my car when I asked them to fix it, or something like that.

Thanks for the discussion.

My brother owns an auto repair shop and he gets questions about repair needs all of the time. He has made it a habit of setting up appointments for a member's car to be worked on when being asked about problems on Sunday. He is also very in-tune with who can afford to have what type of work done and is very willing to help someone work on their car at cost when members cannot afford big repair bills.

On being asked for advice. My wife has a quote (as a horticulturalist she knows the feeling about being hit up for advice):

"Advice freely given is freely taken."

Informal advice is often not taken serious. Even if you are given great advice.

Just finished listening to this episod and loved it! Great job guys. Sorry I wasn't there to participate this week.

I agree with lots of what you said. I try to treat all business transactions equally and hold Church members up to the same standards as everyone else.

I've been burned by MLM's in the past and some Church members were involved. I just treated it as a learning experience and didn't hold anything against the parties involved.

I love the new music-accompanied feedback segments. We should look at doing more stuff like that. Looking forward to getting back together for the next episode!
