Have to agree with the other Mike, I believe the "don't buy anything on Sunday" mantra came into play when blue laws were under attack and this was a grassroots movement to try to get businesses not to be open on Sundays, You talked about buying essentials on Sunday, like milk, plan ahead and you won't have to. I have worked in many professions and they aften call upon me to work Sundays but I still find time to get the Sacrament. I think your discussion pointed out a very important point, why are you doing that activity to build up the family or for self-gratification. I enjoy listening to the topics. One that is not an Urban Legend. Donny Osmond was counseled not to serve a mission as he was such a well-known world-wide idol that his serving would be more of a distraction to potential investigators and other missionaries as the media would not leave him alone.

Hello from Tennessee
Just found your podcast last week and have been catching up. Enjoy your candor about the Church. Keep up the good work. It is refreshing. Also enjoy your west coast accents and terminology, in this area being so close to Atlanta a soda is a “coke” no matter what the brand.

To me the discussion about not working, or having others work makes sense. First of all, from what I had been taught by leaders and heard from church authorities is that of course working for essential services are OK; fire, police, electricity, etc. Also of course an ox in the mire situation is OK also. But we should not be purchasing things if at all possible. Of course in states other than some areas in Utah and Idaho, it won't probably cause any store to shut down, but it does take business away.

As far as accepting a job that works on Sunday, I don't know what to say. I have done it before and probably didn't have to, but it would have been hard not to. I have of course striven toward a job where I could eventually and now do not have to work on Sunday. As long as we are not looking for lucrative positions that require Sunday work as apposed to "supportive" positions that do not.
