Episode 103: Giving It Your All – Law of Consecration

Podcast Comments

Brother can you spare a dime? Or maybe everything you have?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints convenant to accept the Law of Consecration, essentially agreeing to give all they have to build up the kingdom of God. What does this really mean? Would you be willing to give it all up if asked? Was the United Order a form of socialism… communism? Listen as the Potluck Dudes™ try to figure it all out.

Just remember, it’s all in good fun! Don’t quote us in Gospel Doctrine class, unless it’s been a while and you would really like to see your Bishop!

Episode 102: Provident Living

Podcast Comments

From choke-proof hot dogs to potato pearls and back again, there’s no topic (or food storage staple) too tough for the Potluck Dudes™ to chew on.

We’re living in tough times, and the brethren have been warning us for years to be prepared, but have we listened? Or does it take Wall Street greed and an act of God to get us to take things seriously. Get our take on the state of preparedness. All the usual warnings apply, we don’t claim any direct revelation, but sometimes we are inspired. Listen and enjoy, send us your thoughts, and Guess the Mormon.

Thanks again to all of you for hanging in there. We are glad you stuck around.

Welcome Back!

Podcast Comments

After receiving requests from both of our listeners, the Podcast Dudes™ knew it was time to resurrect the Potluck. I mean really, how has the gospel moved forward without our great works? Like a rough stone rolling, we dust of the cobwebs and plow through a session like we know what we talking about. We are a little rusty, and I can’t say our reunion broadcast went without a hitch (Sean: next time we’ll pay attention to your text messages), but as they say, when you fall off the horse, you have to get right back on the bicycle. If your not careful, that ship will sail!

Seriously, we are glad to be back. We are working on some great topics for future episodes and think you will enjoy the upcoming shows. Let us know what you think.

Show notes? We don’t need no stinkin’ show notes!

Episode 29: Home Teachers of the Church

Podcast Comments

Have you done your home teaching this month? Please call your district leader with your home teaching report. Nag, nag, nag…

It’s the calling that almost every adult male member holds. Serving as a representative of the Bishop, and charged with ‘visiting the house of each member and exhorting them to pray vocally’, the fearless home teacher ventures forth… teaching, preaching, and seeking answers to the all important question, “Is there anything we can do for you?”

Armed with little or no facts the Potluck Dudes set out and awkwardly go where no home teacher has gone before. In this episode we explore the doctrine that defines the role of the home teacher. Listen as we decide if a Metallica concert counts as home teaching. Find out how home teaching assignments are made (at least in our narrow view). As always, this is doctrine according to the uninspired, uninformed, and often irreverent Brethren at the Potluck!

Episode 28: Every Member A Missionary

Podcast Comments

As if this subject doesn’t come up enough! Well, we’re here to tell you to go out and get your missionary work done. It’s your job!

Okay, not really. We take a peek at this well worn phrase and what it has come to mean to most members. Sure, we try to mix a little fact and history in as well, so you may end up a little smarter after you listen. (This of course will only counter the effects of previous episodes, so you may just end up “less dumb”, patents pending.)
